When one ton of steel is recycled, 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal, and 120 pounds of limestone are conserved. That’s more than two tons of finite resources that are conserved. The North American steel industry is the only modern industry that has reduced energy demands while increasing production.
Eco-Friendly and Durable Powder Coatings
Modern Steel Doors uses the most environmentally responsible and durable finishing method available: powder coating. Powder coatings emit zero or near zero Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). VOCs are gas or vapor emissions that cause adverse health effects and smog.
Solvent-based liquid paints emit VOCs. Solvent use accounts for 4.2 million tons of VOCs emissions annually in the United States. That makes solvent use the largest VOC emitter in the United States, even greater than On Road Vehicles (which is the second highest). As a result, solvent use more detrimental than autos. Powder coating is durable on steel, which means, unlike wood, it does not need to be refinished and maintained with harmful sealers.
